Fluor Fire Crew Chief - EMS in Afghanistan
Supervises the operations element of a fire protection organization to ensure it provides quality resource protection and firefighting support for structural fires, aircraft fires, rescue operations, medical emergencies and other emergency responses. Directs and controls company level operations during fire attack, confinement, salvage, overhaul, ventilation, and rescue activities. Functions as a group or team leader in the standard incident command system normally working under the direction of a Senior Fire Officer.
Responds to calls for non-emergency and/or emergency medical assistance; and operates emergency vehicles to transport patients. Provides initial medical assessment and treatment to patients, including basic and advanced life support treatment, in accordance with established procedures and medical protocols; dispenses medication to patients according to protocols. Completes forms and reports concerning all events and activities surrounding patient medical care.
Performs administrative functions in support of fire department operations to include, maintaining accountability of equipment, scheduling maintenance of equipment, coordinating appointments of subordinates, and other administrative duties as needed. Ensure the safety of all firefighters by requiring proper procedures are followed.
Position may be located in a war zone in a contingency environment with harsh and dangerous working and living conditions, including lifting and carrying 40 pounds of personal protective equipment for extended periods of time. To ensure safety, health, and security measures within the contract are met, all employees shall be literate in English (read, write, speak and understand).
Living conditions on the project are most likely austere. The most austere sleeping may be in environmentally conditioned tents on “Army type” cots. Restrooms and showers may be 250 feet or further from sleeping quarters. Laundry service for 15 pounds twice per week is commonly provided. Meals are provided at regular intervals in cafeteria or “dining facility” style environment. Living area will most likely have constant hum of generators or similar equipment nearby.
