Job Description:

The successful Principal CSA Designer will have extensive experience in preparing drawings, models, details and schedules for steel and reinforced concrete structures, foundations, water retaining structures, buildings and underground services.

The Civil / Structural Design Specialist/Supervisor will be responsible for preparation and production of models, drawings, details and schedules for grass roots and revamp Oil and Gas / Petrochemical / Industrial Services projects worldwide. These services include preparing/checking drawings and schedules, MTO’s and estimates, preparing sketches, reviewing / checking drawings produced in work share offices. Projects will include FEED and EPC, reimbursable and lump sum projects.

The role will involve contact and coordination within the group and with other Engineering disciplines, construction contractors regarding CSA design, Engineering and construction activities. Reports to project discipline lead engineer.

Candidate will be experienced in or capable of management of design activities on project, responsible for planning tasks, coordinating the design team, managing and reporting on the work. Reporting to the Lead Engineer.

Coordination with globally dispersed work share teams

Report discipline status and requirements to the Lead Engineer

Coordinate with third parties, project disciplines and construction site

Basic Job Requirements

Must have significant proven experience of engineering design, including experience of Oil and Gas, refinery and petrochemical projects, and preferably also with Industrial Services and other heavy industry experience.

Experience will have been gained working on FEED/Basic Engineering projects as well as detailed design (EPC) execution projects. Projects of varying size and complexity


HNC/HND qualified minimum


Good computing and analysis skills

Strong 2D and 3D CAD tools experience

Candidate will have good hands on technical skills and ability essential. Able to work in a variety of materials including structural steel and concrete. Good knowledge of international detailing codes and standards including BS, Eurocode, American codes etc. required

Candidate must have demonstrable experience of Oil and Gas, petrochemical and power projects for both greenfield and brownfield (revamp) locations required. Knowledge and experience of Industrial Services projects including pharmaceutical, and of heavy industry sectors such as mining, power generation and infrastructure highly advantageous.

Fluor’s execution strategy will require candidate to work within multi disciplinary teams. Experience of leading a design team including worksharing with global execution offices is required. With the role to mind, good people skills, relationship building skills and dynamic approach essential

Candidate will be expected to demonstrate good design tool skills, including 3D tools. Working knowledge of Aveva E3D, Bentley Microstation, and SmartPlant 3D and REVIT Structural would be an advantage

Experience in design project set up and administration an advantage.

For some Principal Designer Positions, previous experience of architectural design skills is also considered to be beneficial for any candidate.
