Job Description:

Preferred minimum 10 years supervisory experience in underground utility work; Proficient in using laser and transits to establish line and grade. Able to read plans. Experience in deep excavations and shorting systems. NCDOT erosion control supervisor Level 2 preferred but not required. Prior experience in heavy highway work preferred. Must be a self starter and perform duties without direct supervision. Follow all health, safety, environmental requirements and enforce such. Plan/schedule/communicate work requirements per blueprints, specifications, procedures, work schedules and standards. Works crew balance, makes assignments within capabilities of crew members in mind; familiar with work area; oversight of quality control and crew productivity. Maintain good working relationship with other crats; plan effective use of personnel, material and equipment. Responsible for recording daily/weekly crew work hours; address job related crew issues; motivate crew members; develop pride in crew and self. Knowledge of craft(s) being supervised; track crew members attendance; resource control and cost awareness. Physical demands: bend knees for lifting and routine tasks like stooping for work positioning and lifting; maximum lift of 50 lbs without assistance. Ability to respond to audible/visual alarms, see hazards, safety warnings and barriers; climb/balance on ladders and structures, kneel for work positioning; reach above shoulders/away from body; demonstrate manual dexterity. Mental demands: Understand and carry out oral instructions; read and carry out written instructions. Work at varying heights. Recognize, avoid, and report all safety hazards. Assemble & disassemble objects; operate power equipment and power tools. Work in extreme heat or cold with noise levels above 89 decibels; work in wetness/humidity, in cramped quarters and fluctuating ventilation; work outside in all weather conditions. DAY and NIGHT shifts as required.
