Fluor Fire Protection Inspector in Afghanistan
Supports the Fire Prevention program within assigned sites. Provides fire protection services and fire prevention training. Performs base-wide f ire inspections, provides smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors, exit signs, and fire extinguishers. Implements fire protection policies, training, planning, inspection, and reporting programs. Responsible for preparation and maintenance of reports, daily mission logs, and plans as needed. Promotes fire prevention programs and performs variety of administrative, technical and supervisory work related to fire inspection and prevention. Identifies issues concerning life and property safety by developing, adopting and enforcing ordinances, codes and standards for new and existing buildings and facilities. Verify that emergency planning and preparedness measures are in place and are being practiced. Identify the applicable code or standard, given a fire protection, fire prevention, or life safety issue, so that the proper document, edition, and section are referenced. Documents and reports, actions, inspections, investigations and test procedures in accordance with DoD and NFPA requirements regarding Fire Prevention and Fire Inspection standards. Recognize hazardous conditions involving equipment, processes, and operations, so that the equipment processes, or operations are conducted and maintained in accordance with applicable codes.
Position may be located in a war zone in a contingency environment with harsh and dangerous working and living conditions, including lifting and carrying 40 pounds of personal protective equipment for extended periods of time. To ensure safety, health, and security measures within the contract are met, all employees shall be literate in English (read, write, speak and understand).
Living conditions on the project are most likely austere. The most austere sleeping may be in environmentally conditioned tents on “Army type” cots. Restrooms and showers may be 250 feet or further from sleeping quarters. Laundry service for 15 pounds twice per week is commonly provided. Meals are provided at regular intervals in cafeteria or “dining facility” style environment. Living area will most likely have constant hum of generators or similar equipment nearby.
