Job Description:

Manages the Fire Services function within assigned area of responsibility. Provides leadership of the fire department through planning, organizing and directing the operation of all aspects of fire protection programs. Oversees the development of policies and procedures related to department management,

emergency response, training, fire prevention, fire protection engineering, budgeting and self-inspection. Assist in developing the department’s organizational structure, strategic plan, emergency operating procedures, health and safety program. Organizes, develops, and publishes work and training schedules that will direct the functions of the fire protection program. Maintains contact and participates, when necessary, with appropriate departments, project management, and program management to stay abreast of applicable developments that might affect the fire department. Provides recommendations for obtaining, purchasing, and maintaining vehicles and supporting equipment to assure proper firefighting capabilities. Ensure the safety of all firefighters by requiring proper procedures are followed. Is the Acting Fire Chief in the Fire Chief’s absence with responsibly for the Fire Emergency Services program.

Expected to work in less than ideal conditions during periods of interruption to utilities services or other emergency conditions.

Position may be located in a war zone in a contingency environment with harsh, dangerous working and living conditions, which may include carrying and wearing required personal protective equipment for extended periods of time.
